No, we're not pregnant. And no, it's not warm. But there are a few flowers out now, and we have been working on the garden a bit.
The news is we have started the spring cleaning. By ripping up the carpet in our bedroom. Always ambitious, we are going to polish the floorboards in our room before installing our own built-in wardrobe.
It all stems from one of the wardrobe consultants lifting up a corner of the carpet to look at the condition of the floor. He made a (probably throw away) comment to Adam, about the boards being in good condition, which Adam relayed to me. So I decided to have closer look. We could see a few cuts in the boards from central heating works, but generally they looked ok.
After a lot of research and debate, we took the plunge on monday and ripped up the whole carpet. And after further discussion, we decided that there is no going back and we cut up the carpet into more manageable sections. We are still keeping it in case we want to recarpet either of the bathrooms. The rest of the floor was in very good condition except for one hole, one more cut, and a lot of dirt. And there is a tiled hearth in front of the fireplace, which will one day be a feature, rather than the testament it is now to bad 50's interior design.
We now have two weeks of preparation (vacuuming, scraping out dirt, switching poor quality boards in exposed areas for good ones which will be in the wardrobe, destroying the current wardrobe, filling gaps, hammering in nails, and more vacuuming), followed by a mad weekend of sanding and varnishing while living in closet. And then we still have to install the new wardrobe.
I'll post pictures of the process, chaos and results.
The boards make me feel like I am living in an old farmhouse. And the kittens now sleep on the bed every night. Which is lovely and friendly. But a bugger if you want to roll over.
