it's oh so quiet

It has been a quiet couple of weeks. It snowed on and off for about a week, and even stuck at home one night which was wonderful. We had a day out, during the snow, at Marwell Zoological Park. It is a brilliant zoo - heaps of room, happy animals with lots of babies, and great viewing areas. We were amazed that we were allowed to pat the giraffes (when they cared to put their heads our way). There were baby Okapis, Amur leopards, cheetahs, snow leopards and giraffes. They were also very well fed, as evidenced by the large chunks of meat lying around the big cat cages.

Last weekend was Adam's birthday & my grandfather's birthday too. I was kept busy cooking him a couple of cheesecakes. There is the tradition here, as in Europe in general I think, that you bring in the cake/morning tea on your own birthday. Which is quite a good way of doing it, since it leaves time for a mad dash to get a birthday card for the afternoon. Adam had a white chocolate cheesecake for work and a chocolate ripple cheesecake for home. We also had a fabulous cheese, pate & wine dinner supplied by some lovely friends back in Oz.

We also had a day in London. I visited the Elgin Marbles while Adam had an interview for a second job over summer: lecturing smart yankee kids in a general-education style science course. Complete with field trips and swanky dinners. Swanky I say. Of course he got the job, he always does. And we got to visit a nerd shop and get books and toys and I got a little lego David-Boreanaz-Angel, complete with three chests - bare, shirt part open and shirt with burned in cross mark. Happy geek!
