Being the wonderfull people that we are, we ofcourse have been offered the house we were interested in in Arborfield Garrison, which is just outside of Reading. We went down and met the owner yesterday, and she was really nice. She is moving out and heading to Canada, so the house is very furnished, as opposed to the barfridges and crap beds we saw in other places. She is even going to leave us things like spices and cleaning products, which are always an added expense when you are setting up house for the first time (or in a new country). Not 100% sure about when we will be moving in, but it might be this weekend. And yes, there is a second bedroom for anyone out there who might be inclined to use it.
Kat has headed down to Surrey today to visit work. She doesn't start until next week, but is going down to do some paperwork and meet everyone etc. At my work, experiments are just starting out. Last week was a bit of a nightmare because Abi, who is the senior post-doc that knows how everything works went on holidays for 3 weeks. OK, so I am an adult and can work things out myself, but she had made several important orders for the lab before she left, and a couple of them have stuffed up. It seems our accounts people sat on 1 order so that the quote expired. But we needed the order to be invoiced the day I found that out (end of financial year issues), so I spent the day running around getting quotes and hasseling the accounts people to get their act together. Blah. When I got a call later the same day from another company about an order I just though "why me", but it turned out to be a less serious problem. Now there is someone trying to deliver a back-up system for the -80 freezer, so I need to sort out emptying the freezer into a spare (luckily the next lab has alot of space in their one) so that the backup can be attached etc. All the kind of thing that slows you down when it comes to getting your real work done.
Somewhat suprisingly, there is a house near my work with a shark sticking out of the roof. Kat found it mentioned in a travel book, and sure enough, one block back from the main road there is a house with the arse-end of a shark pointing up to the sky. It adds about 1 and a half stories to the house. The classic question of WHY? springs to mind.
Sorry I havn't done anything stoopid with the car, but it is only a matter of time.
