This is the world cup of vuvuzelas, obviously, but it also seems like
the world cup of slow motion. Lots of the coverage here has those slow
motion high def shots usually reserved for eagles hunting on BBC docos.
The commentators here are pretty average. The TV ones are ok, they
have a lot of old spurs players so Adam is happy, and john barnes. But
they don't understand injury time, which is odd. The radio
commentators are terrible - I assume they are usually rugby
commentators/players, who have had a few too many hits in the head.
South Africans say "plus or minus" instead of approximately (or about,
around, etc). Which is a bit confusing when someone says it is plus or
minus 5 kms. What distance is it plus or minus 5 kms? (and they would
say kilos for kms).
There is quite limited health and safety rules here. Lots of cabs
don't have seat belts. High rise buildings have windows that open, and
balconies. Our building (7 storeys) has all open walkways around a
big central open courtyard, and being right next to the beach it is
quite windy. And the health food options are very limited.
