Durban - focusing on the positive

What can I say about that game? A couple of young kids got a run out,
which was great. The stadium was beautiful. We didn't go deaf. We're
staying in a beautiful apartment... That might where I run out of
positives.

The vuvuzelas mean no one sings. When someone tries to start, someone
will join in with one of the horns and drown out everyone else. You
can still hear each other and the announcers at least.

The stadium was beautiful, with a grand open section at the main
entrance. Everything ran smoothly enough, but the stadium was almost
full an hour before kick off, which never happens, do I guess everyone
was expecting a problem.

We were sat in the back row of the back section. Great view of the
pitch, and if the ground beneath us thanks to the railings behind the
seats. There was a lovely light breeze blowing through the railings to
remind you of the six storey drop behind. I spent most of my time in
the edge of my seat - holding the seat in front.

But there were four empty seats next to us.

The apartment we are staying in is beautiful - penthouse with plunge
pool and BBQ on the roof, great view if the beach, really well
finished with gorgeous cornices (I miss them ok? You just don't see
them in the UK much), and artworks not even nailed down. Thankfully I
caught Stu before he ran the dishwasher with washing up liquid in it
or it would have been a bit less beautiful.

The drive down from joburg was lovely. The scenery was spectacular
with long dry, rolling grassy hills giving way to spectacular mountain
outcrops in the draakensbergs. There was a lot of haze the whole way
and even more in Durban, so the photos won't be great. But we are
enjoying it.

I can't believe I got up at 4am to watch that. It surely has to get better from here though, right?!

Is there meant to be some significance to the four empty seats near you that I am missing? It sounds so sad, like you're missing friends who should be there with you.

Hope the scenery and accommodation continue to be so lovely, and the games just get better and better!

4-0 it almost wasn't worth staying home on a 20plus degree day for!
Should've gone hiking instead.

Then I follow that up with a 5:15am wake up call for Denmark v Netherlands (a self-header goal???!!!) and the better half has said some unpleasant things about whether or not marrying me is a good idea!

I don't think she truely appreciates my need to watch soccer... even at 5:15am... even if Australia isn't playing :-)

So enjoy yourselves enough for me too!
