Spring fever

I think everyone had the post-holiday hump today.

After a painfully long, cold winter, spring has hit the UK. And it has hit hard. After bare soil and bare trees for so many months, suddenly the trees are budding and all the winter and spring flowers have come out at once: swathes of daffodils and bluebells, trees bursting with blossoms, the forsythia bushes erupting in yellow. The smells of the flowers meld with the smells of freshly mown grass and warming earth. The days are warm and the nights fade gently to rich purple skies via orange and pink at 9 o'clock at night. Every bird is tweeting and active and every animal is frisky.

And all of a sudden there is no better place to be than the UK.

So the weekend just gone was the first warm weekend of the year. Everyone was out and about and in the holiday spirit, which makes Monday feel like the first day back from holidays and makes us grumpy.

This weekend was spent doing spring cleaning! How grown up are we? And we had a lovely walk with Jaffa along the Cherwell to the Victoria Arms for lunch.

And there's finally a bit of a chill in the air here, if I get out of bed early enough!
