It has started snowing! On Thursday at work we had a snow storm, for about 10 minutes. But it was great. I was outside when it started and almost got blown over. In the office we watched the snowflakes blowing upwards. And afterwards the world was covered in a dusting of white.
Unfortunately Oxford missed out, and continues to miss out. The rest of the country has been crippled by snow. We have -10 degrees and rain, which is nowhere near as fun. At one point yesterday we had forecasts of heavy snow or at least snow everyday up until Christmas. But that keeps being revised, and everytime another day loses its forecast of snow.
Seeing the snow on Thursday reminded me that I have done nothing about Christmas cards and presents. So consider this your Christmas card - Merry Christmas. I have remembered to order all the meat and veg for Christmas, but I'd be heading for divorce if I forgot Adam's Christmas duck and pork!
Today we did wander into town to look for some presents. We took a few bits of bread to feed the ducks on the way. We should have realised that something was different when the first goose repeatedly rammed the foot of ice crust at the edge of the river to get to us. And he was just the first. We were quickly swamped by a goose, a family of swans, as well as ducks, and the swans in particular were very aggressive.
No zoom required to photograph this goose.
Adam retreated about 20 m while feeding the swans. When the bread ran out, one of the cygnets decided to peck at Adam's hands (luckily he had think gloves), only to have a parent come and nip the cygnet. The parent then started nipping at Adam's hands instead!
Maybe it was revenge for the scenes at the covered markets. Oddly enough I love the racks of Christmas birds hanging and draining, and the whole pigs and deer being skinned and hanging. There is certainly no wondering where the meat on your plate comes from!
