Not unusually it involved wandering around, and eating a lot of cheese, chocolate, cakes, schnitzel (from a restaurant with 101 different types of schnitzel) and other meats. And a fair bit of drinking too. And ended up involving a lot of game playing, as they introduced us to Settlers (of Catan). We bought it when we got back, and that is what we spent at least 7 hours playing on Christmas day as well.
But we did also go out and about... Here is the Castle lit up at night across the river Neckar.
Adam and I on the old bridge.
We got to see the crazy Christmas store, which is apparently famous. Two floors of everything you could possibly need for Christmas, and everything you never knew you needed. Like ornaments shaped like gherkins. Or what we deduced to be a personal egg nog warmer (like a fondue warmer with the candle underneath, but with many more christmassy layers).
One for the engineers - the flood level markings on the old bridge.
The castle by daylight (well, what passes for daylight on a grey autumn day).
To get a break from the game, and a bit of fresh air (and cake) we went to Ladenburg.
The south of Germany is catholic, so there were lots of blessed front doors. And on the right, an example of the lovely old buildings.
