So the internet is back on again. nothing like jinxing yourself.
Carbon footprints are very big news over here, so I thought I would follow up on some of the local foods available. Last weekend I walked to the local butcher to pick up some bbq foods for adam, and had a trip to the local fish farm for some fresh-from-the-dam crayfish (cooked in a light marinara sauce, with fresh spaghetti). Verdict: delicious, but a lot of work.
Our little adventure for this weekend was to the local farmers’ market. Adam came across it once before by accident, but as it is on once a month on a Saturday morning, which is usually when we avoid the shops, we have managed to avoid it for 2 years. We got lobster, which we grilled with a bit of olive oil, chilli, garlic and lime. Verdict: delicious, and a lot less work than crayfish. We got whole sea bass, including the guts I realised too late, but I have now worked out how to gut a fish, sans internet help. We got gourmet quiches, blue berry crème brulee and tarts from the dessert stall; freshly picked berries; freshly pressed apple with rhubarb juice; and meat and bread for a bbq on sunday. And there was the goat cheese man. Adam and I are both fans of goat cheese, so when we saw his selection of a dozen different types of goat cheese we got quite excited. We ended up buying four types, and goat cheese man threw in another two for free. Mmmm.
Sunday had been forecast to be our one day of summer. It rained. But luckily only brief showers so we managed to have our bbq, with Alex & Iain, and sit outside despite the fact that it was also unidentified flying black insect day. Maybe the sun will come out next month.
