Seymour is the smartest cat in the world

Even as a small kitten Seymour worked out that we open doors by moving the door handles, and would jump up on the couch and bat at the kitchen door handle. When we took him to the cattery when we were off to Oz, he rubbed up against me so I picked him up, and then he immediately climbed up on to my shoulders and onto the top of the internal door and looked for a way out through the roof (he'd been there before so he knew there was no way out through the walls).

We have suspected for a while now that he knows to push windows to try to open them. We have a small window in the utility room that we leave open for them sometimes, but we are careful about always latching it closed when we don't want them to go out. Now, it appears, he has learnt to unlatch that window and open it. Smart little bugger.

Luckily the windows big enough for a person to get through have two latches, which he knows is how we open the window, but hasn't quite worked out how to get his weight behind the top latch. otherwise we will have to start deadlocking them all the time. i think he would work out very quickly where the keys are, but may struggle to use them. as for keeping him indoors, i guess we will have to shut the doors and hope he doesn't make the leap to putting his weight on the handle rather than batting at it.

PS. Nibbler, we know you are very smart too, you are just smart enough to hide it from us.
