sunny ever after

We've just had a long weekend in Barcelona which was fabulous. While England occasionally struggles through the drizzle to reach double digits, Barcelona was a glorious sunny 20 degrees. We spoilt ourselves with a suite in a 4 start hotel the Eixample district (yay last minute dot com), which was also convenient to the open top bus tour.

On Friday arvo we wandered down to Las Ramblas and ate ourselves silly at the markets (followed by picking up a range of cheeses, olives and chocolates for snackies), had a siesta and then headed back down to the gothic quarter for dinner and more rambling. it would have been almost ten kms of walking by the time we got back to the hotel, which is a lot when you are wearing your dinner shoes.

On Saturday we headed, via the long route on the bus, to the zoo. The meercats as always were a highlight, as was the orangutan who wanted to play catch with her bedding (shreded paper/wood stuff doesn't fly so well unfortunately) and the lions who fought just like big versions of seymour and nibbler. We forgot to have our siesta, thinking that we got back to the hotel to late. we had taken the other long bus route back. But we found out that restaurants don't open until eight thirty - even with the time differnce, the english have finished dinner by that time. (we went to eat locally because Adam was tired, he couldn't work out why. he had forgotten that sun causes sunburn and tiredness. we must hae been away from Oz too long if we are starting to forget about the effects of the sun)

would you believe i didn't get around to having sangria or even paella? of course i make paella at home quite regularly, so it was more about eating good quality seafood for reasonable prices, and good olives and cheeses. mmmm.
and i won't hear a bad word said about bones, which is why i have had to stop listening to adam and my flatmates. luckily we have a tv in the bedroom to escape to...
