Tibetan women’s dress is stunning, and varies from region to region. In one region, 108 braids are auspicious. Some go for two braids tied together. Most have a big animalskin coat, covered with embroidery, which they were wearing off-the-shoulder. Pilgrimage means you get a good cross section of the Tibetan Buddhists in Lhasa.

Traditional Tibetan houses in Lhasa are communal apartment blocks built around a central courtyard, with shops on the ground floor facing the street, and a central hand pump for water.
