The Ukraine v Italy game – not much to say. We thought about selling our tickets, but turned out we couldn’t give them away. But I did get to see Shevchenko in action, one of Chelsea’s new signings. The highlight of the game was the ‘grilled cheese sandwich’ I had from the stadium kiosk – it was a big chunk of haloumi. Mmmm.
The beautiful summer weather was continuing, so after breakfast on the terrace, a swim in the pool, a go on the 6 storey waterslide that ran by our bedroom window, it was time for a harbour cruise. The lack of English commentary was no object, with John there to inform us all about container transport. But is there a nicer way to spend a sunny day than on the harbour with the breeze and wait staff to bring you beer?
We hit the red light district that night. I was appalled to learn there was a men only street. But other than that it was great to see somewhere so alive late at night (i.e. compared to England’s 11pm closing time, and public transport cutoff). Adam and I took in the zoo, which was fabulous. We saw an ostrich laying a very large clutch of eggs, and watched the baby orangutans play. And it was a very interactive set up which was great - you could feed the elephants and a lot of the other herbivores, and pat them too. We finished off the day with lobster, and strawberries and champers, at a food festival on the edge of the little lake (Europe is so cheap compared to the UK, but I guess everywhere is).
