Star wars v black dragon

Spring has sprung. Well it is trying at least. The Russian cold front has passed, which did include -10 degrees, but only at night. Leaving in it's wake very windy, wet, cold weather. It will rain for about 20 minutes, and then the sun will come out for 20 minutes. And even though it has been above zero, the wind and damp make it pretty horrible. Of course the bright side to all this is that the first spring flowers have started to bloom. The ground, particularly along the Thames, is covered in snowdrops. There are lovely colourful crocuses in gardens. And buds are starting to appear on trees.

To get in the spirit of it all, we visited our local nursery. After an hour wandering around the huge-by-english-standards selection, and tossing up over who would win in a fight: the star wars (magnolia) or the black dragon (wisteria), we took home a modest collection (it is of course ridiculously expensive - a tree is £35 so we will mostly grow from seeds). We now have two twigs in the front yard (a magnolia and a wisteria - we'll keep you posted on who wins), and a selection of hedge plants and flowering heathers which will be planted when they are a bit bigger, and a whole lot of seeds potted - tomatoes, peppers and of course catnip.
