The recent trip to Germany was a pleasant escape from work and a good bit of fun. I took no work with me, making it the first time I have gone on holidays without work/study material in about 6 or 7 years. Got my car on the ferry at Dover, and while everyone else went upstairs, I proceeded to put my "GB" sticker and headlight converters on my car. Once done, I headed upstairs to find the door unopenable. 90 minutes with the cars didn't seem a great prospect, and I was getting a bit clostrophobic. After 10 minutes of wondering around, I ran into a French speaking staff member, who pointed out where the unopenable door was. After signing that I couldn't get out, he suggested dropping my shoulder into it. Sure enough, it was really stuck, but not locked, and I escaped. Phew.
Next I drove through France, Belgium and the Netherlands to reach Frankfurt. I really did enjoy the drive. Driving on the wrong side of the road is easy on a dual carriage way. Stopped in France for my picnic lunch, and my only stop in Belgium cost me 50 euro cent, but I got my moneys worth. The Netherlands, well, I just drove across the narrowest part in 15 minutes, but it still counts!!!
Oh, forgot that Stuart, who arrived in Frankfurt before me, had called to let me know I had booked our hotel for July instead of June. We ended up staying next door, which was centrally located, but appropriately dubbed "hotel Rwanda" by Stuart. At least the nice place let us in for the buffet breakfast each morning, and I proceeded to eat enough smoked salmon and croissants that I didn't need lunch.
As for the football itself, the Aussies played well for 2 games (against Germany and Argentina-still lost though), and then shiza for the 3rd one against Tunisia (lost 2-0). However, Stuart and I both managed to catch match balls that the aussies kicked into the crowd. A bit of a memento of how bad we were. And I am not the only one sick of "Aussie, aussie, aussie...oi, oi, oi". It is now met with half-hearted, feel sorry for you "ois" that sound pathetic.
Wont bore you all with anymore detail. Needless to say I am back at work, wasting time as much as possible.

Glad to hear your trip to Deutschland was good. I just spoke to Sophie and she said you're fine, so stay that way, and I hope you avoid the train today. Call us when you get a chance. I'll be in Heathrow on Monday morning, so I'll try and call you then for a chat. Love Al
